Bio-Products
Several important products are produced through pyrolysis and depending on the applications the equipment can be adjusted to provide the maximum yield of desired product. The products of this process are listed below,
- Bio Gases
- Bio Oil
- Aliphatics - long chain hydrocarbons, alcohols, etc.
- Phenolics - benzene ring compounds and substituted compounds
- Cyclic nitrogen compounds - rings substituted with nitrogen
- carboxylic acids
- Bio Char
These non-condensable gases consist of hydrogen, methane, oxides of carbon as well as other trace gases. These are commonly combusted to generate heat for the reactor since there capture and purification can be difficult.
Bio Oil because of its characteristics can be used as a fuel substitute in oil furnaces to provide heat for processes. The composition of Bio Oil is not homogeneous, instead it is made up of many different compounds formed in the pyrolysis reaction; some of these compound classes are,
Bio Char consists primarily of fixed carbon, this cannot be further broken down. The char when tilled with soil functions as an excellent fertilizer, small amounts of Bio Char when applied is effective in increasing crop yields.
